Hunting with Heroes 2014 a Big Success

This year's Hunting with Heroes event was by far one of our biggest celebrations to date. It all started out with a visit from Golden Globe nominee, Ronald Lee Ermey, AKA “The Gunny.” The Gunny showed up at McNett headquarters to escort the 10 Veterans from Whatcom and Skagit counties 325 miles to the hunting grounds in Klickitat, WA. That's right, The Gunny rode 325 miles through congested traffic in Seattle for 8 straight hours on a motorcycle. Oorah!

The first stop was in Vancouver, WA where our 10 local Veterans met up with 30 additional Veterans from throughout the state. From there, the entire group was escorted by The Gunny, the Legion Riders and Patriot Guard Riders to our final destination, Klickitat.

Once we arrived in Klickitat the entire town turned out to welcome the Veterans. Schools had an early release as children sang patrotic songs with the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Each Veteran was treated with a swag bag loaded with free gear from Beyond Clothing, Smith Elite, CamelBak, McNett and many more great sponsors. From there it was off to the ranch for some skeet shooting, BBQ and the annual poker tournament.

The following day, the real fun began with guided fishing trips, where participants reeled in giant Chinook Salmon bigger than some of them! If you weren't fishing, you were out in the fields hunting pheasants and chukkar with some of the best guide dogs and handlers in the state.

After a long day of hunting and fishing, the Vets returned to the town of Klickitat for an evening of live music, more food and comradery. When the music began to wind down, it was off to bed to rest up for one more day of excitement.

All-in-all, the event was a great success. The particpants had a great time as well as an opportunity to connect with other Veterans for a real healing experience.

We're already gearing up for next year, and it's only going to get bigger and better! To find out how you can participate or lend a hand, visit:
